RED LIPS: ICONIC AND TIMELESS

thegoldennoteblogo

From the iconic red lips of Taylor Swift to the exact shade that Selena Quintanilla wore every day of her life, we cannot ignore how iconic red lips are, they make a look go from simple to dramatic and add that flare of exotic beauty we all want and aspire to.

Yet where do we start? There thousands upon thousands of shades of red and beauty brands that will give it to you, whether it be matte, glossy or longwearing, there is no such a thing and too much red lipstick.

A brief history gives us red lipsticks from the ancient Sumerians that crushed red rocks to get the powder to Egyptians getting that technique as well. But besides that, the significance of red lipstick has also meant revolutions of women to get equal rights, the most famous ones, the Suffragettes, so much that Elizabeth Arden gave away free samples of her red lipstick on their march on New York City.

You want another example? My country, Nicaragua. To protest against a government that has done nothing but getting away with murder and changing the laws of the country for their benefit, men and women alike wore red lipstick on the marches of 2018 and 2019. So yes, this is a lipstick that has meant empowerment, equal rights and make statements when needed.

So as you see, there is just not one way of wearing this gorgeous shade, whether you want to be femme fatale, the villain of the story or the mistress in your sketch, there will be nothing wrong in wearing a red lipstick.

Final fun fact, on 1770 the English Parliament declared a new law, and guess what it was about? That any woman wearing red lipstick and ¨luring¨ men whether married or single would be immediately declared a witch. Guess I better grab my broomstick.
